Study Away

Study Away offers domestic opportunities for students to live, study, and intern within the United States while earning Kalamazoo College credit. Programs range from one-quarter (3-unit) to two-quarter (6-unit) experiences. The CIP helps support students; understand program requirements, prepare strong applications, complete program-specific logistics and plan next steps after acceptance.

What Is Study Away?

Kalamazoo College partners with the Great Lakes Colleges Association (GLCA) and national organizations to offer structured academic and internship-based programs in major U.S. cities. These programs allow students to explore new environments, build professional experience, and engage deeply with their academic interests.

Earning Credit

  • Students earn 3 K-Units for a one-quarter program.
  • Students earn 6 K-Units for a two-quarter program.
  • Students who complete a two-quarter (6-unit) Study Away program are not eligible to study abroad later.

Eligibility

  • Open to sophomores and juniors.
  • Selection is competitive and varies by program.
  • Strong applications will include how the program aligns with students’ academic and professional goals.
