Financial Matters

Billing and Payment

Study abroad program charges are billed according to the College’s standard billing schedule. Students will receive bills from the Kalamazoo College Business Office for each quarter they are enrolled in a study abroad program. For specific billing dates, contact the Kalamazoo College Business Office.

Students are responsible for monitoring their account and ensuring that all charges are paid by the published deadlines. All accounts must be cleared prior to departure. Failure to resolve outstanding balances may result in a delay in participation or removal from the program. Failure to make payments while abroad may jeopardize a student’s ability to continue in the program.

For a detailed explanation of program costs, what is included, and how financial aid applies, visit the Costs & Aid webpage.

Study Abroad Withdrawal Fee

Students who withdraw from a study abroad program after submitting their participation confirmation will be charged a $300 withdrawal fee.

This fee is in addition to any non-refundable costs already incurred on the student’s behalf, which may include (but are not limited to):

  • program deposits
  • housing
  • airfare
  • tuition and fees

Financial Responsibility

Students are responsible for all costs associated with participation in their study abroad program that are not covered by the Kalamazoo College comprehensive fee.

This may include (but is not limited to):

  • travel expenses
  • personal expenses
  • visa-related costs
  • additional program-specific fees

Students should review the Costs & Aid webpage for a full breakdown of expected expenses and financial aid opportunities that may assist with these expenses.

Financial Aid

Kalamazoo College financial aid, scholarships, and grants may be applied to approved study abroad programs in the same manner as on-campus study.

Eligibility for financial aid and scholarships is contingent upon participation in a CIP-approved program.

Students participating through programs such as GLCA-TRE are eligible for financial aid and scholarship application if the program is approved for transfer credit.

For detailed information about how financial aid applies, estimated costs, and funding opportunities, visit the Costs & Aid webpage.
